Education
The competition for making it into medical schools is very harsh. Records show that on 46% of medical school applicants were accepted in 2010. A bachelor's degree is a minimum formal education required, but some require graduate school. After completing college, you will need to attend 4 years of Medical School (which will get you an MD or DO degree). Then, three years of residency is required. The first year is considered internship.
Bottom line: 4 years college + 4 years medical school + 3 years of residency = 11 years (after high school).
In High school, the basics are obviously required, biology, chemistry, physics, algebra, geometry, calculus if possible. A second language is required, spanish is recommended. Get involved in extracurricular activities, like sports, student government, music programs and charity organizations.
Bottom line: Work hard and develop good study habits and get involved!
